The Nigeria LNG Limited has opened submission of entries for The Nigeria Prizes 2025 that will also focus on innovations in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technology.
Sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited, the prizes aim to recognise groundbreaking contributions in the fields of science and literature, particularly those that address local challenges and promote sustainable development.
This year, the Nigeria Prize for Science is specifically seeking entries that showcase advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), AI, and other digital innovations that can significantly impact Nigeria’s development trajectory.

Professor Barth Nnaji, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Science Prize, who states that “Artificial Intelligence isn’t just a tool; it’s a game-changer,” emphasises that AI has the potential to optimise various sectors, from agriculture to public health infrastructure, ultimately transforming Nigeria’s digital economy.
The prize is valued at $100,000, reflecting the importance of these fields in shaping the future of the country. In addition to the Science Prize, the Nigeria Prize for Literature invites submissions in prose fiction, also offering a $100,000 reward. This prize seeks to celebrate the richness of Nigerian storytelling and encourage authors of Nigerian descent from around the world to submit their works published from 2022 onward.
Furthermore, the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism recognizes critical essays focused on contemporary Nigerian literature with a cash prize of ₦1 million (approximately $10,000). This initiative aims to promote scholarly engagement with Nigerian literary works and foster a deeper understanding of their cultural significance.

The Nigeria Prizes were established in 2003 when Nigeria LNG Limited initiated a proposal for reputable awards in science and literature. Over the years, these prizes have evolved significantly, with reforms introduced in 2010 to enhance their administration through the establishment of Advisory Boards comprising distinguished members from relevant academic and literary institutions.
In 2012, the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism was added to recognise the contributions of literary critics who engage with Nigerian literature. This expansion reflects a commitment to fostering excellence across multiple dimensions of literary expression.
According to the event organisers, interested participants can submit their entries through the official website at http://thenigeriaprizes.org. The deadline for submissions is set for June 30, 2025. Winners will be announced during a Grand Award Night scheduled for October 2025, coinciding with celebrations marking Nigeria LNG’s first export of liquefied natural gas on October 9, 1999.
