The Federal Government has announced the go-live of two key technologies addressing data gaps as part of plans to strengthen the industrial sector and promote economic growth in Nigeria.
Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, who launched the Nigeria Raw Materials Information Management System (NRMIMS) and the Raw Materials e-Registration Portal (RMe-regP), at the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in Abuja, says the new systems are poised to unlock Nigeria’s full potential.
“Nigeria is rich in natural resources, yet challenges such as data gaps and poor integration hinder optimal utilisation. The lack of accurate, accessible data on raw material reserves, quality, and locations has led to inefficiencies, high import dependence, and reduced investors confidence,” Nnaji says.

“The innovation developed by the Council,” Ike-Munonso adds, “serves as a key resource for investors, manufacturers, researchers, and policymakers by providing advanced tools that support research development as well as a user-friendly portal for managing raw materials data in the country.”
RMRDC: NRMIMS and RMe-regP will drive Nigeria’s industrial growth
The initiative is a major milestone in Nigeria’s push for industrial growth, economic diversification, and sustainable development, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Minister says.
According to him, the system will contribute to job creation and industrialisation by strengthening local production and positioning Nigeria’s raw materials in global competitiveness.
“The country,” Nnaji adds, “is ready to build a data-driven economy, where local resources and innovation foster industrialisation, which will be a great roadmap to economic prosperity.”
The Minister also calls on government agencies, researchers, private sector players, and development partners to actively participate by contributing data to enhance the system’s impact.
In his remarks, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Munonso, Director-General of RMRDC, explains that the NRMIMS and RMe-regP are essential tools for investors, manufacturers, researchers and policymakers.
“The innovation developed by the Council,” Ike-Munonso adds, “serves as a key resource for investors, manufacturers, researchers, and policymakers by providing advanced tools that support research development as well as a user-friendly portal for managing raw materials data in the country.”
In addition, with the launch of NRMIMS and RMe-regP, Nigeria aims to improve transparency and strengthen local production which will in return drive industrial growth and economic transformation.
