Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of digital economy, has been appointed by the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, to serve on the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Tijani, the Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) recently received an invitation to serve on the Board of Trustees by the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, according to a statement.

He views this appointment as a significant win for Nigerians, stating that his invitation to serve “is a win for Nigeria, and an acknowledgement of the giant strides made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards promoting economic and social development. Particularly, it is a validation of our efforts and achievements in building capacity and bridging the technology skills gap through our initiatives including the 3MTT Nigeria, the largest talent accelerator in the world.”

The 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, which played a key role in securing Tijani’s appointment, aligns with the President’s vision of creating 2 million opportunities for Nigerian youths to build capacity, bridge the technological gap, and enhance the nation’s economy, the Minister says.

Over time, he says, the 3MTT initiative has successfully trained and placed thousands of Nigerians, demonstrating the achievement of a part of the set goal.

Tijani has expressed his commitment to fulfilling the duties and responsibilities assigned to him as a member of the Board of Trustees of UNITAR. In his words: “I look forward to working with other board members to formulate principles and policies that will govern the activities and operations of the Institute.”
