The talks held under the platform of the US-Nigeria Binational Commission (BNC) witnessed a plenary session focused on Digital Economy and Emerging Technologies that was co-chaired by Kashifu Inuwa, Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and Kurt Campbell, US Deputy Secretary of State, also convened key stakeholders from both countries.

Nigeria’s Digital Economy: Tech leaders want President Tinubu to ‘champion local content’

Attendees, including Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, CEOs, government officials, and private sector representatives, gathered to explore avenues for research, private partnerships, and a Joint Plan of Action aimed at driving digital transformation in Nigeria, according to a post-event statement.

The discussions covered collaboration strategies, sharing of resources, digital literacy programs, and initiatives focusing on Advance technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain.

Inuwa, NITDA’s DG, expressed appreciation for the support from the US Mission and emphasised the crucial role of the BNC in driving Nigeria’s digital economy forward, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for economic reform and inclusive growth.

The plenary, he said, represents a notable advancement in US-Nigeria cooperation, setting the stage for meaningful partnerships and initiatives that will drive Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
