Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, says he supports plans by Innoson, an indigenous vehicle maker, to manufacture armoured bullet-proof vehicles in Nigeria.
The Minister said this when Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Founder/CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company led his team on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Innoson has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Nigerian Army Authority for the manufacture and supply of armoured bullet-proof vehicles.
Onu commended the company for job creation effort, capacity development, for the training unemployed youths, achieving 60% local content and collaboration with the Military and other government establishments.
He also promised to ensure that all obstacles are removed to increase the capacity utilisation of the company to enable it create more jobs, wealth, grow and develop the economy.
According to the Minister, the Ministry and its agencies will patronise the company’s vehicles as soon as the budget is passed as proof of the Ministry’s commitment noting that, “Nigeria can only be great if Nigerians patronise our home-made products.”

CEO of Innoson said that his company has established the Innoson Kiara Academy to offer technical and vocational training to Nigerian youths.
According to him, Innoson has also signed an agreement with the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) to sustain maintenance of Nigeria Airforce Air Assets and other associated aerospace equipment.
Chukwuma sought government’s assistance to access foreign exchange to enable it purchase raw materials and components needed from overseas to enable it keep and maintain over 7,200 employees, efficient power supply. He also sought proactive government policy to protect home-made goods and patronage by government at all levels.
Also, he commended the Ministry for striving to promote and also make Science & Technology the driver of the Nigerian economy.
