Nigeria’s electronic border (e-border) management project hoped to secure the nation’s land border using surveillance technology has reached 60% completion, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, has said.
The Minister who announced this on Thursday following an inspection tour in Abuja said that the Command and Control Centre for electronic gates at airports have been finished and ready for commissioning by President Bola Tinubu.
Tunji-Ojo, who emphasised the government’s commitment to national security said that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu believes that a secure border is a safe nation, and our government is committed to deploying cutting-edge surveillance technology to boost internal security across our border spaces.”
The Minister highlighted that the e-border management solution aims to enhance security, combat cross-border banditry, and manage irregular migration. The project includes the implementation of automated management solutions across Nigeria’s borders.
During the inspection, the Minister, who was accompanied by Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), reviewed the progress at the e-border management centre and the newly-built Command and Control Centre for the electronic gates.
“We are pleased to announce that the Command and Control Centre for the e-gate project is now ready for commissioning,” Tunji-Ojo said. “The first phase of the e-border management solution is approximately 60% complete.”
