Nigeria’s free AI Academy ‘to prepare youths for future of work’

Nigeria says that the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy established to empower Nigerian youths for free with cutting edge technology skills will also prepare them for the future of work.

Nigeria says that the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy established to empower Nigerian youths for free with cutting edge technology skills, will also prepare them for the future of work. 

The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, which launched the free AI Academy, announced that the project is a collaboration with Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation.

The course is open to Nigerians from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, including youth, students, and civil servants.

The free AI Academy, according to the Minustry, aims to “prepare Nigerian youths for future jobs and leadership roles in the digital economy, empowering them with AI skills” and this will enhance their competitiveness in the global job market, and also drive innovation in the country.

The AI Academy will provide beneficiaries with free access to self-paced courses on AI fundamentals, ethics, tools, and real-world applications.

All participants will also have the opportunity to compete for AI ambassadorial roles and internships with Intel Corporation while gaining hands on experience in Artificial Intelligence, the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology says.

This initiative highlights the government’s dedication to using technology to drive economic growth, improve lives and create opportunities for for Nigerian youths.

Nigeria’s free AI Academy: The FAQs

  • Who is eligible to participate in the AI Academy course? The course is open to Nigerians from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, including youth, students, and civil servants.
  • Do I need prior knowledge of Artificial Intelligence to enroll? No prior experience is required. The course is designed for beginners and provides a step-by-step learning experience.
  • Is the course free? Yes, the course is fully funded and offered at no cost to participants, as part of the ministry’s partnership initiative.
  • How is the course structured? The course consists of self-paced online modules covering AI fundamentals, ethical practices, hands-on tools, and project development.
  • What happens after completing the course? Participants can participate in a national competition or exam to qualify as AI Ambassadors and gain advanced opportunities.
  • What is the duration of the course? The self-paced modules must be completed within a set period of 3–6 months, depending on the schedule.
  • What do AI Ambassadors do? Ambassadors represent Nigeria as AI leaders, undergo advanced training, and may intern with Intel to enhance their skills further.
  • Will I receive a certificate after the course? Yes, all participants who complete the training will receive a certification to boost their career prospects.

The Ministry says that interested applicants shoul register through the official website of the AI Academy while reiterating that “the course is open to Nigerians from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, including youth, students, and civil servants.”

With the launch of the AI Academy, the Federal Government reiterates its commitment to driving innovation and creating opportunities for Nigerian youths in preparing them for the technology-drive fast-paced world. This is evident through the 3MTT programme previously launched by the government to upskill Nigerian youths.
