Nigeria’s IXPN, FreePass Africa ink deal to boost local internet performance

The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) has announced the onboarding of FreePass Africa as its latest member, in a move expected to strengthen local internet performance and digital service delivery across the country.

IXPN, Nigeria’s national Internet Exchange, was established to interconnect networks and localise internet traffic by reducing latency and improving content delivery nationwide. The Exchange says the addition of FreePass Africa, Nigeria’s first and only Local Content Delivery Network (CDN), underscores its commitment to strengthening the nation’s core internet infrastructure.

FreePass Africa, (also known as FreePass Ltd, operates as a carrier-neutral digital infrastructure provider offering a network that enables the seamless delivery of multimedia content and machine-to-machine (M2M) data streams. Its services target a wide range of sectors, including broadcasting, streaming, education, healthcare, logistics, and gaming.

According to FreePass Africa, its multimedia and M2M CDN platform is designed to deliver high-quality, low-latency communications across Africa. The platform, which is customisable, seeks to enhance digital experiences regardless of users’ location or economic status.

IXPN says pact with FreePass Africa to improve user experience in Nigeria

IXPN says discussions with FreePass Africa were concluded at the recently held Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) 2025, paving the way for its formal induction into the Exchange.

“We’re proud to welcome FreePass Africa as the latest member of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN),” the Exchange said in a statement.

According to FreePass Africa, its multimedia and M2M CDN platform is designed to deliver high-quality, low-latency communications across Africa. The platform, which is customisable, seeks to enhance digital experiences regardless of users’ location or economic status.

The partnership with IXPN is expected to improve internet performance and user experience in Nigeria, while aligning with IXPN’s mission of enhancing the nation’s digital infrastructure.

FreePass Africa says its goal is to “connect Africa, one city at a time” by creating local access points and reducing reliance on traditional global routing pathways. The company also highlights plans to drive impact in critical sectors such as healthcare, logistics, education, and urban security through edge infrastructure solutions.
