Younger generation of Nigerians should seize digital opportunities offered by the Internet to raise their entrepreneurship skills, the Nigeria Communication Commutations (NCC) says Monday at the opening day of the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF 2018) underway in Abuja.
Sunday Akin Dare, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Engagement at NCC gave the advice while speaking on digital opportunities and youth empowerment at the NIGF 2018.
The first day of NIGF 2018 was devoted to the youth as a pre-event,with the theme “Internet for Opportunities, Value Creation and Empowerment.”
Dare reckons that Nigeria youths can be connected to new opportunities by leveraging the Internet and digital innovations that are reshaping the path for employment and entrepreneurship.
Today 73 million people are unemployed worldwide and three times as many are under-employed while a further 621 million youths are said to be idle, the NCC Commissioner cited while charging to youths to harness the power of the Internet to be financially-buoyant.

“According to ITU the ongoing tech revolution is transforming established sectors from Agriculture to health and creating new ones from microwork application development”, Dare says.
”The Internet has created vast opportunities for every one especially the new generation such that digital and business skills, problem solving,creativity and collaboration can help launch young people into serial entrepreneurs.
Tech has given rise to entirely new waves that young entrepreneur are working as as the growing number of tech hub that provide solution to young digital entrepreneurs by providing internet connectivity, support mentor-ship and collaboration”, adds Dare, who was represented by his Technical Assistant, Quasim Isekemba.
He says that NCC will continue to ensure it provides the empowering environment to encourage advancement in the industry that will ensure the nation’s economic growth.
Earlier in his remark Olusegun Hamed Olugbile, President, Global Network for Cyber Solution says that 2018 is a significant year for Nigeria Internet Governance at a time the government has offered us another national economic development vision: National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan with a 4-year timeline that will lead to sustainable economic recovery.
Olugbile believes that to achieve the Plan, “Nigerian Youth is a major stakeholder and a key player whose interest must be addressed, and who must be empowered and activated for this purpose.
“Our message for this year is that our youth on the Internet must be transformed and find their space on the Internet for value-driven productive and collaborative engagement.”
For the President, Global Network for Cyber Solution, “It is our hope the youths will continue to respond and engage the opportunity offer by the NIGF to showcase and empower themselves while learning from the multi-stakeholder dialogue and values of the NIGF to gain knowledge and to be well-informed.”
