The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it continues to provide uninterrupted National Identification Number (NIN) verification services to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), dismissing claims of access challenges as “misleading” and “inaccurate.”
In a statement seen by Technology Times, the Commission reaffirms that all authorised security agencies, including police formations across Nigeria, maintain full access to its verification platforms — a vital digital service that supports recruitment, cybercrime control and other security-related activities.

“To set the record straight, the NIMC granted verification access to all Nigerian Police formations for the verification of the National Identification Number (NIN),” the agency says. “The NPF and other security agencies have been enjoying uninterrupted verification services for over five years.”
The Commission’s response follows media reports alleging that the Police Service Commission (PSC) is encountering hurdles in accessing NIN verification services, a key digital identity infrastructure critical for law enforcement operations.
NIMC clarifies that the ICT department of the Nigeria Police Force is actively managing the ongoing systems integration between both institutions. It adds that no formal complaints have been received from the Police regarding service disruptions, even during recent police recruitment exercises where NIMC’s digital identity platforms have reportedly functioned seamlessly.
Security, technology and digital trust
As Nigeria deepens its reliance on digital infrastructure for law enforcement, identity management and national security, the NIN system plays a central role in verifying identities and strengthening institutional accountability.
NIMC highlights that its services have recently been restructured in alignment with directives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), under a framework designed to improve coordination and compliance across security agencies.
“Any service interruption experienced by the PSC may be due to internal matters,” the Commission says, noting that all partners are expected to adhere to terms and conditions required for uninterrupted service delivery.
The agency reiterates its commitment to bolstering Nigeria’s national security architecture with technology-driven solutions. “NIMC will continue to provide flawless verification services for the purpose of recruitment, security mapping, cybercrime control, and any other security matters,” it says.
