The National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC) has defended its newly-introduced fees of N5,000 and N3,000 to be charged for the National ID card production and replacement respectively.

Hajia Hadiza Dagadana, Director of Legal Services, on behalf of its Director General, Engineer Aliyu Abubakar Aziz, said in statement that ”there’s nothing strange or illegal about the new policy done in national interest.”

According to her, since funds for the card renewal and replacement in question were not sufficiently accommodated initially in the Federal Government budget, public outcry clamouring for project subsidy or free issuance was baseless and uncalled for.
