The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) recently launched a Self-Service Modifications portal for Nigerians to easily update their National Identification Number (NIN) records.

The paid application enables users to change their name for ₦)1,522.5; date of birth for ₦)16,340, and email and address for ₦)1,522.5 using the NIMC MWS Mobile ID App.

To use the app, you will need: your NIN, your phone number (used during enrollment for the NIN) to receive an OTP (one time password) for installing the Mobile ID app, and a reasonably good internet connection.

The paid application enables users to change their name for ₦)1,522.5; date of birth for ₦)16,340, and email and address for ₦)1,522.5 using the NIMC MWS Mobile ID App.

You can download the app from NIMC. The Federal identity agency advises Nigerians not to download the app from dubious websites or social media accounts.

To update their information, users must create an account on the NIMC Self-Service portal and verify their NIN. Once verified, they can select the information they wish to update and follow the on-screen instructions.

The NIMC Self-Service Modifications portal provides a quick and easy way for Nigerians to update their NIN information. Keeping your NIN information up-to-date is crucial, according to the identity agency, as it is used for various purposes such as voting, applying for a driver’s licence, and opening a bank account.

Here are the steps to update your Date of Birth through the NIMC Self-Service Modifications portal:

1. Verify your NIN and log in.

2. Navigate to your dashboard and select the date of birth modification option.

3. Complete the payment for the modification securely via Paystack.

4. After payment, input your NPC certificate number and validate it. Your date of birth will be automatically filled and non-editable. If you have misplaced your birth certificate, perform the birth attestation online at [http://www.nationalpopulation.org.ng.

5. Upload your NPC certificate along with any required supporting documents.

6. Submit your modification request and preview the adjustments.

7. Ensure to check the attestation box before submitting your request.

8. Receive your modification transaction slip on the modification table.

9. Upon approval, receive a notification, and your NIN slip will be dispatched to your email. You also have the option to print the slip directly from your dashboard.

It important to remember that the date of birth can only be modified once through this portal.
