The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched NIN Authentication (NINAuth), a secure digital identity service hoped to transform how Nigerians and legal residents verify their identity across a wide range of essential services.
Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director General and CEO of NIMC, is leading the digital identity innovation, which is aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) must adopt the platform for authentication processes, according to the identity management agency of Nigeria.
The move is underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to a unified and secure digital identity system for Nigerians and legal residents.
“The NIMC NINAuth application is the official service for integration with the Commission’s backend infrastructure,” the Commission says in an official statement.

“It introduces a robust layer of protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information,” NIMC explains.
“By requiring explicit consent before data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other verifications, the platform fosters trust, transparency, and user autonomy in digital identity management.”
NINAuth: Built for trust, privacy and convenience
NINAuth is coming as a suite of web, mobile and API-based verification tools, designed to safeguard user data, uphold privacy, and simplify access to public services. At its core, NIMC says, is user empowerment through control and consent.

What NINAuth means for Nigerians
For the Nigerian public, the newly introduced authentication service is opening a gateway to seamless and secure access to a range of vital services including SIM registration and replacement, international passport processing, driver’s licence renewals, tax filings, financial transactions and participation in government welfare programmes.
According to NIMC, key features of the NINAuth platform include:
- Enhanced Security: Personal data is protected against unauthorised access.
- User Control: Users can manage how and when their identity data is shared.
- Seamless Access: A secure single sign-on feature simplifies service access.
Reforming digital identity in Nigeria
Mr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, says NINAuth is taking centre stage as the “exclusive platform designated for all NIN-based verification and authentication integrations.”
The application, , Mr Adegoke says, “provides a secure, scalable, and interoperable interface for identity verification through API integration.”
He adds that, “it is designed to facilitate real-time authentication of NIN records, thereby promoting effective service delivery, database harmonisation, and compliance with the National Identity Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
How to get started
Nigerians and legal residents can access the authentication service by downloading the official NINAuth App via the Google Play Store or Apple iOS App Store.
As digital transformation gains traction across Nigeria’s public and private sectors, NIMC says that its latest innovation is reinforcing the country’s push toward a unified, privacy-focused and citizen-controlled digital identity ecosystem.
