The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has signed a landmark partnership with U.S.-based Zonos, a cross-border payments and duty collection provider, in a move expected to ease market access for Nigerian entrepreneurs and exporters targeting the United States.
The agreement, sealed at the 28th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress 2025 in Dubai, was announced by Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster-General and CEO of NIPOST, who describes the deal as a milestone that will “remove barriers for Nigerian small businesses” seeking entry into global trade.
“What does this mean for us as a nation? It means our entrepreneurs, SMEs, and exporters no longer have to worry about barriers when sending goods to the U.S. market,” Odeyemi writes in a post on X. “The world is open, and Nigeria is ready.”

According to her, “Together, we are building a more connected and innovative postal ecosystem for Nigeria, Africa, and the world.”

Zonos, recognised by the U.S. Customs & Border Protection, is a trusted facilitator of international payments and duty collection services. By integrating with NIPOST, the partnership is expected to streamline customs duties and tax compliance, making cross-border logistics more efficient for Nigerian businesses.
Odeyemi noted that the deal reflects the delivery of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, framing the development as not just about NIPOST but about Nigeria’s wider positioning in global commerce.
“For us, this is not just about NIPOST, it is about Nigeria’s story: a story of resilience, innovation, and a future where our people are no longer on the sidelines but at the heart of global commerce,” she said.
The NIPOST chief also highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role at the UPU Congress, where she led the country’s delegation and joined African counterparts in an Africa Coordination Meeting aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in the global postal ecosystem.
“The Congress provides a vital platform for engaging with global stakeholders, sharing ideas, and forging the partnerships that will define the future of the postal sector,” she said.
According to her, the NIPOST reforms are geared towards embracing innovation, improving efficiency, and delivering world-class services to Nigerians, while ensuring the country plays a more active role in shaping global postal policies.
Nigeria’s attendance at the event where the deal was signed, “is not only about representation but about positioning Nigeria to embrace innovation, improve efficiency, and deliver world-class services to Nigerians,” the NIPOST chief said.
“At the Africa Coordination Meeting,” Odeyemi adds, “I joined fellow African leaders to strengthen regional collaboration and ensure Africa’s voice is amplified in shaping the global postal agenda.”
According to her, “Together, we are building a more connected and innovative postal ecosystem for Nigeria, Africa, and the world.”
