NIRA @ 10: Domain name manager flags off selfie, .ng contests

Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), manager’s of Nigeria’s .ng Internet domain name has opened entries for a selfie contest among several competitions marking its 10th anniversary.

NIRA says the competitions will open opportunities for local content development and encourage the local Internet community “to develop great ideas.”

The NIRA competitions include the .ng Selfie Competition, .ng Animation Competition and .ng Scout, all hoped to create opportunities for local content development that “motivates the creation of compelling contents, Edith Udeagu, COO at NIRA says explaining that the competitions promise to be interesting, motivating and challenging.

NIRA has asked interested persons to participate in any of the following competitions by registering their details on the NIRA web portal, www.nira.org.ng, and choosing their choice of competitions out of the underlisted:

My .ng Selfie Competition

The .ng  selfie competition is freely open to all age groups. Contestants are to take a snapshot of them with a designed placard written:

MAKE A VIDEO FOR .NG or GET YOUR .NG DOMAIN

The contestants should then promote the placard with its inscription on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Nairaland, etc with a hashtag stating “ngselfie”.

Contestants can create a link with their personal ID for friends to like, retweet and rebroadcast. You can also distribute the link on Whatsapp and BBM as long as they like your post. Every contestant is expected to follow and tag NIRA on the picture after uploading it and use the hashtag stating #ngselfie.

In this selfie competition, NIRA says everyone is a winner. The first run of this competition is for two weeks and winners will be judged with a minimum of 100 likes

Winning Prizes

-The top winner gets a sum of N20, 000.00, NIRA souvenir and a free 3rd level domain name for one year

-Top runner-up winners get N10, 000.00 and a free 3rd level domain name for one year.

This competition closes on Thursady, 24th March, 2016 by 11:59pm. Winners will be contacted week after the end of the contest.

Animated Video Competition

This competition is open to youth students and graduates and to all below the age of 45 years.

Contestants should first register in www.nira.org.ng, secondly create 2D; 3D or paper pencil animated video educating viewers about the need of .NG domain name for individuals and/or companies, and how it helps to promote brand awareness and business growth, and thirdly, upload their video on Youtube with hashtag on the subject as #ngvideo.

-The video should be between 50 seconds to 3 minutes

-The use of .ng logo is required in the video

-The video should be interesting and must be in English

-The video must be about the domain name system industry, e.g. ecommerce, blogging, DNS, education etc.

-The video should be uploaded to Youtube with the name “#ngvideo and your full name”, e.g. #ngvideo Ndukwe Adewole

Winning Prizes

First Prize: N100, 000 + a free 3rd level .ng domain name for one year

Second Prize: N70, 000 + a free 3rd level .ng domain name for one year

Third Prize: N50, 000 + a free 3rd level .ng domain name for one year

This competition closes on Friday, 1st April, 2016 by 11:59pm.

.ng Scout

NIRA says “.NG Scout (NGS)” program was introduced as part of the continuous youth empowerment program and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plans of NIRA.

.NG Scouts are vibrant students who will advocate and educate companies to switch to .ng platform and on using .ng domain names as their website addresses. To qualify as a .NG Scout, you need to be a student, innovative, professionally mannered, vibrant and hardworking, under the age of 35.

To be a .ng scout (NGS) is free, just follow these simple steps:

Check your eligibility to ensure you qualify, register on www.nira.org.ng, like or follow NIRA on any social media page (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedln), upon completing these steps, you will receive a notification email within 48 hours informing you of your qualification. Your login details to the NGS web portal will be emailed to you once you qualify.

Benefits of being a Scout include:

-Qualify to win awards and prizes for excellent scouts

-Access to web portal where .NG Scouts will log their progress and transaction

-Free .ng branded t-shirts and souvenirs

-Free training for the students through NIRA Academy on the DNS related courses

-Internship opportunities based on vacancy

-Discounted travel to some NIRA events

-Many more to be outlined by NIRA
