The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) says it is set to provide websites for all Local Government Councils across Nigeria in a major step towards enhancing transparency, accountability, and public access to information at the grassroots level.
The technology-driven initiative, unveiled during a courtesy visit by Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General of NITDA, and his management team to Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), will see the two agencies collaborate to promote open governance across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
According to NITDA, each local government will soon have an official website designed to host key information such as budgets, development projects, and community initiatives. The platforms, the agency explains, will enable citizens to easily track government spending, monitor progress on local projects, and engage directly with their elected officials.

Inuwa says the initiative reflects NITDA’s mandate to drive digital transformation in governance, adding that technology can play a critical role in reducing corruption risks and bridging the information gap between citizens and government institutions.
The partnership aligns with the principles of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which emphasises the use of technology to promote openness and accountability in public institutions.
ICPC Chairman Aliyu commended NITDA for the initiative, describing it as a proactive move that could make corruption prevention more effective at the grassroots level.
For Nigerians, the Federal tech agency says, the impact of the planned rollout could be transformative. Citizens will gain digital access to their local government’s budgets and project details, providing new channels for civic participation and oversight.
NITDA says the collaboration underscores its broader commitment to using technology to strengthen public trust, improve governance outcomes, and ensure that transparency becomes a cornerstone of Nigeria’s digital economy agenda.
