The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) say that they want to boost digital literacy in Nigeria to 70% by 2027.
“This initiative is expected to significantly increase digital literacy among Nigerian children and youth, aiding in the rapid achievement of the 70% digital literacy goal by the year 2027,“ according to NITDA.
NITDA and NERDC, recently concluded a Content Development Workshop focused on integrating digital literacy into the educational curriculum.
Held at the e-Government Training Centre in Kubwa, Abuja, this effort, the agencies say, supports President Bola Tinubu’s priorities in education, health, and social investment.
“This initiative is expected to significantly increase digital literacy among Nigerian children and youth, aiding in the rapid achievement of the 70% digital literacy goal by the year 2027,“ according to NITDA.
NITDA says that a team of IT experts, curriculum specialists, teachers, and educators will collaborate to develop a curriculum that is comprehensive and aligned with Nigeria’s digital needs.
Additionally, the new curriculum is expected to enhance Nigeria’s digital economy by equipping the younger generation with essential skills, contributing to broader economic and social development.
