Microsoft says a new feature on Skype now lets users connect with anyone without creating an account or downloading the Skype client.
Skype says it has noticed that millions of people who visit Skype.com every month to start conversation with friends, loved ones or colleagues usually do not have the time to sign up for an account to use it.
As a way to help reduce time spent to start a conversation, the social network service says a ”Skype user can now join as a guest to start a quick conversation.
“By joining Skype as a Guest, you can quickly chat, voice or video call without any hassle. Perfect if you’re new to Skype and want to quickly chat with someone, anywhere in the world, for free,” the tech company says in a statement.
“To get started, go to Skype.com, tap start a conversation and add your name. You will then be provided with a unique conversation link. You can share this link with your contacts—either individually or as a group—via email or via your social networks. Once they click on the link, they’ll be able to join your conversation immediately. They can also join as a Guest if they’re using Skype for Web,” it says.
It further says that even as guest, a user can still enjoy all of Skype’s free features, including one to one and group instant messaging, voice and video calls, screen sharing and even file sharing. A user can also invite up to 300 people to chat and up to 25 people on a voice or video call, all for free.
When using Skype as a Guest, your conversation will last for 24 hours. If you want to return to the conversation, call a landline, mobile or translate a conversation in real-time with Skype Translator, you will need to sign up for a free Skype account, it says.
To start a conversation as a Guest, you will need to use a web browser from a computer. Anyone can join the conversation from any Skype client or as a Guest using Skype for Web.
