OAU alerts public over internet admission scams

Lagos. February 14, 2013: The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife have raised alarm over the activities of unscrupulous individuals posting information on the internet to defraud unsuspecting students seeking admission into the university.

In a statement obtained by Technology Times, the institution says it will never deal with public by requesting prospective students to call a phone number for “assistance” or “supplementary form” with regards to admission as claimed by the scammer.

While urging the public to shun such fraudulent overtures, the university advises the public to visit the institution’s website to get get relevant information in respect of admission.

“This is to categorically state the Obafemi Awolowo University will not relate to the public via any other site except its official website –www.oauife.edu.ng”, the statement says.

The fifty-year old institution was recently  ranked as the best university in Nigeria by the Cybermetrics Labs, owners of the ‘Webometrics Ranking of World Universities Initiative’, a body reputed as the leading assessor of university rankings worldwide.
