Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo State Governor, has announced a collaboration with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to train young individuals in the state as data protection officers.

The data protection training programme is planned to address youth unemployment and foster economic empowerment, Governor Aiyedatiwa said.

The Governor, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, revealed this initiative following a visit to the NDPC headquarters in Abuja.

Emphasizing the state government’s commitment to job creation, he highlighted the importance of equipping youths with contemporary skills, particularly in information and communication technology (ICT), to enhance their competitiveness among the global workforce.

“Our government is deeply invested in youth development,” Aiyedatiwa said. “By partnering with NDPC, we aim to train a substantial number of graduates in Ondo State as data protection officers, recognizing the significant employment potential in this field.”

The governor applauded NDPC’s dedication to safeguarding information privacy, aligning with the broader agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He underscored the impact of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 in creating employment opportunities, as organisations are mandated to hire data protection officers.

Vincent Olatunji, Pioneer National Commissioner and CEO of NDPC, commended Ondo State’s proactive approach to addressing the shortage of data protection officers in Nigeria. He expressed appreciation for the Governor’s foresight and vision in recognising the importance of this partnership.
