The Ondo State Government says it is undertaking a number of information and communication technology (ICT) programmes to transform into “the most technologically-advanced region in Nigeria.”
Under the plan, the Ondo State Government says it is also collaborating with the Federal Government to boost digital literacy in the state.
Tomide Akinribido, the Senior Special Assistant on ICT and head of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), who disclosed this during a meeting with Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, highlighted several initiatives underway to achieve Ondo State’s tech advancement goal.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance digital skills and foster innovation within the state.

They include ongoing plans to promote local content development, and establish a robust indigenous ICT industry. The goal, he adds, is to position Ondo State as a technologically advanced region in Nigeria.
Dr. Tijani acknowledged the efforts being made by the Ondo State Government to improve digital literacy. Various ICT training programmes, according to him, are already underway, along with plans to set up innovation hubs in local universities. These hubs are intended to serve as centres for technological advancement and skill development.
The Minister pledged to establish a Tertiary Institution Digital Centre (TIDC) within the state that will play a crucial role in enhancing digital education, and providing resources for students and educators alike.

Akinribido expressed gratitude for this commitment, stating that it would significantly contribute to the state’s efforts to accelerate digital literacy among its residents. He emphasized that fostering a culture of innovation is essential for preparing individuals for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Both parties agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will outline specific initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation in Ondo State. This MOU is expected to cover various aspects, including expanding communication infrastructure, and enhancing ICT penetration throughout the region.
