Oppo, a global smart device brand, has hinted at the upcoming launch of two variants of the Reno 13 series smartphone in January.

The tech company has unveiled a few specifications and designs of the devices of upcoming Reno 13 series consisting of two variants, the Reno 13 and Reno 13 Pro.

The smartphone maker has also confirmed that the Reno 13 and 13 Pro models feature two vertically aligned cameras, with a third camera positioned on the right side. The design of the cameras, particularly the two vertically aligned ones, is striking and reminiscent of the iPhone design aesthetic.

While an official launch date is yet to be announced, Oppo has been teasing the new Oppo Reno 13 Series, which is set to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset. This collaboration between Oppo and MediaTek signifies a significant milestone, promising users groundbreaking advancements in power efficiency, gaming performance, and AI capabilities.

The Dimensity 8350 chip, optimised jointly by Oppo and MediaTek, boasts impressive features such as MediaTeks advanced NPU, delivering 8x faster generative AI processing, 2x improvements in compute tasks, support for up to 10 billion parameter LLMs, and a 3.3x boost in AI performance. This results in a 20% increase in performance with 30% lower power consumption compared to the previous generation.

The smartphone maker has also confirmed that the Reno 13 and 13 Pro models feature two vertically aligned cameras, with a third camera positioned on the right side. The design of the cameras, particularly the two vertically aligned ones, is striking and reminiscent of the iPhone design aesthetic.

In terms of design, the series will be available in two colour options – white and lavender. Both variants will sport a patterned back, with the white model resembling a marble-like appearance, described by Oppo as a “one-piece sculpted glass” back. Additionally, the phones will feature an aluminum frame and an almost flat display with slight curves on the edges, offering thinner bezels, reduced glare, and fewer accidental touches.

Oppo says that the rear panel of the Reno 13 series will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, ensuring durability and protection for the devices.

“The MediaTek Dimensity 8350 provides OPPO with powerful technologies in AI, imaging, and gaming, allowing users to truly feel a more responsive smartphone with exciting AI-driven experiences in the new OPPO Reno13 Series,” Dr. Yenchi Lee, General Manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek says.

Equipped with the industry’s AI capabilities, the Dimensity 8350 fully supports the extensive AI features of the Reno13 Series on the all-new ColorOS 15. With its NPU 780, which includes a generative AI engine, the Dimensity 8350 delivers a 3.3x improvement in overall AI performance compared to previous products, the brand says. This enhancement elevates the user experience of the Reno13 Series in AI-powered imaging and gaming.

While Oppo has not yet provided detailed information, teasers suggest that the Reno13 Series will be AI-focused, similar to last year’s Oppo Reno 12 series. This indicates that we can anticipate upgrades in terms of AI features on the phone. The Oppo Reno 12 Pro boasted AI features such as AI Best Face, AI Eraser 2.0, and AI Clear Face. In terms of productivity, it offered AI Summary, AI Record Summary, AI Clear Voice, AI Writer, and AI Speak.
