Renowned man of faith, David Oyedepo has warned his congregation to be prudent in spending and set their priority right when taking decision especially on buying recharge cards and mobile devices.
His hinged the advice on a report that cited that Nigerians spend about N499 billion monthly on phone recharge cards, which puts the telecom sector revenue in Nigeria as the largest in the world.
Oyedipo in a short exhortation on Sunday said most Nigerians spend money to buy recharge cards and outrageous amounts on mobile devices at the expense of their well-being all in the name of claiming status.
The Bishop condemned such acts and described it as wasteful culture noting that, ”wasters are not permitted to prosper.” He is concerned that an average Nigerian spend more on recharge cards than food.
On his part, Oyedepo, reported to be the richest pastor in Nigeria, and affectionately called “Papa” by members of his congregation is the Senior Pastor of Faith Tabernacle. The church boasts a 50,000-seat auditorium considered the largest church auditorium in the world by the Guinness Book of Records .He was in 2011 by named Forbes magazine as being the richest pastor in Nigeria with about $150 million valuation.
