Popular Nigerian musician, Patoranking, and tech training leader, ALX Africa, have joined forces to launch a new scholarship programme designed to empower the next generation of African tech innovators.
The Patoranking Foundation Tech Scholarship will provide 40 deserving students with full tuition for their chosen ALX tech programme, along with the opportunity to compete for a paid internship with a leading global tech company.
This initiative, according to the promoters, recognises the critical role that tech skills play in the modern world. By equipping young Africans with the necessary tools to succeed in the digital landscape, the programme directly addresses the growing demand for skilled tech professionals across the continent, they said.
With applications starting May 30, applicants must first be accepted into an ALX tech programme through the standard ALX selection process. Once enrolled, they can submit a separate application for the Patoranking Foundation Tech Scholarship by July 2nd, 2024. The application itself requires a personal statement outlining the applicant’s goals and aspirations, a motivational video showcasing their passion and drive, and a high-resolution photo. Scholarship recipients will be notified before July 15, 2024.
According to the foundation, scholarship recipients will not only have their ALX programme administration fee covered, but they will also have the chance to compete for a prestigious internship with a leading tech company upon successful completion of their programme.
ALX Africa’s programmes, the Foundation said, are known for their intensity and immersion, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to excel in the fast-paced tech industry.
The Patoranking Foundation, established by Nigerian musician Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, better known by his stage name Patoranking, is more than just a celebrity charity. The foundation aims to “impact 1 million lives in the next decade.”
Prior to the tech scholarship, the Patoranking Foundation supported the education of 170 young pupils in five leading schools within Ebonyi State, Nigeria, Patoranking’s home state.
ALX Africa, led by Ghanian entrepreneur, Fred Swaniker, is a frontrunner in innovative tech skills development for young African minds. Swaniker’s accomplishments include recognition as a Time Magazine 2023 Impact Award recipient and a place on Time‘s 100 Most Influential People of 2019 list.
