The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it is reactivating the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) system nationwide through a newly launched secure digital platform, in a move aimed at promoting transparency and protecting motorists from police harassment.
Motorists across Nigeria can now process their Tinted Glass Permits online via the official platform at possap.gov.ng, the Force is announcing, as part of ongoing reforms under Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the law enforcement agency says in a statement.
The revamped digital permit system is enabling vehicle owners—especially those with factory-fitted tinted windows—to apply conveniently by submitting their National Identification Number (NIN), Tax Identification Number (TIN), biometric data, and undergoing a background check.
Successful applicants are being issued a QR-coded digital permit within 72 hours, according to the Police.

“The reactivation of the permit system is a strategic move to identify lawful users such as individuals with medical requirements or members of the security community while preventing misuse for criminal activities,” the Police say.
The reintroduction of the digital permit system is coming in response to widespread complaints by motorists about harassment and extortion by law enforcement officers over the use of tinted vehicle windows, the Force adds.
The NPF is clarifying that while tinted windows are now a standard feature in modern vehicle manufacturing, they are also being exploited for criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, and ‘one-chance’ scams.
A 30-day grace period beginning May 1, 2025, is being granted for vehicle owners to comply, after which enforcement will commence. The Force is warning that any officer involved in unprofessional conduct—including extortion and harassment—during the enforcement phase will face disciplinary action.
Inspector-General Egbetokun reaffirms the NPF’s commitment to technology-driven,citizen-centred reforms and is urging Nigerians to embrace the digital initiative to foster a safer and more accountable policing system.
