The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is engaging PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to conduct a comprehensive study on the state of competition in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, as the regulator and industry stakeholders meet in Abuja today to chart a way forward for a more competitive market.
The Commission says the move is being carried out pursuant to Section 92 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003 and the Competition Practices Regulations (CPR) 2007, which mandate periodic assessment of market competitiveness across the sector.
According to the NCC, the study is designed to deliver an independent, data-driven evaluation of competitive conditions in the Nigerian telecommunications market, providing an evidence base for future regulatory actions.

In line with what the telecoms regulator describes as its participatory regulatory approach, the NCC discloses that a series of stakeholder engagements is being convened, beginning with an initial session holding today, Tuesday, January 13, in Abuja. The engagement is expected to bring together key players across the telecoms ecosystem to deliberate on competition dynamics and practical steps for strengthening market fairness and innovation.
NCC: PwC study to guide telecoms regulation
The outcome, NCC says, is expected to guide targeted regulatory interventions aimed at promoting effective competition, safeguarding consumer interests, stimulating investment, and supporting Nigeria’s national digital development objectives, with a view to ensuring long-term industry sustainability.
“As part of the study, the consultant will engage with a broad range of critical stakeholders, including licensed operators, industry associations, and consumer groups,” the Commission says. “Stakeholders will be invited to provide data, submissions, and perspectives to enrich the analysis and ensure that the outcome of the study reflects current and evolving market realities.”
