Application-to-Person (A2P) SMS will be worth almost $60 billion by 2018 as against $55 billion in 2013, Juniper Research, the U.K.-based technology research company which has reported growing revenues from the messaging service.
In a new report titled “Mobile Messaging Markets: IM, Social, SMS, MMS, Email, RCS/RCS-e” the company defined A2P SMS as “messages which are sent both to and from an application”.
Juniper forecasts that A2P SMS would see growth both in terms of traffic and revenues over the period, noting that organisations have discovered the platform to be more secure and reliable means of reaching their customers and employees.
Meanwhile, the growth in A2P SMS revenues is coming at a time when P2P (Person-to-Person) SMS revenues are declining, the company says.
