If you have been on the lookout for a powerful smartphone that braves the elements with no risk, Samsung’s latest handset might be what you need.

The 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 Active features identical specifications with this year’s pace-setter Galaxy S7 flagship, but comes with a bigger 4,000mAh battery, the largest of any Galaxy S device, providing up to 32 hours of talk time, and can fully charge in less than two hours.

The Galaxy S7 Active comes in Sandy Gold, Titanium Gray and Camo Green colour variants. It has all the premium features of the Galaxy S7 series, including a 12-megapixel rear facing camera with Dual Pixel technology, fingerprint sensor and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor.

In addition, the Galaxy S7 Active has 32GB of internal storage with a microSD slot for up to 200GB of additional storage (sold separately).

The Galaxy S7 Active, as stated by Samsung, features KNOX- Samsung’s defence-grade mobile security platform which is implemented at the chip level so users’ device is highly secure from the moment it boots up, or a limited time.

The hi-tech company revealed that its latest flagship – the S7 Active – is built with water- and shatter-resistant technology and will be available for sale exclusively at AT&T stores or on website beginning from Friday, June 10.

The waterproof element include IP68 which means the phone is able to withstand submersion in up to five feet of water for 30 minutes. The standard Galaxy S7 also boasts this same level of water protection, but it doesn’t meet the MIL-STD-810G rating like the S7 Active does.

It handles extreme temperature, shock, vibration, pressure, altitude and a number of other potentially hazardous conditions, the company says.

“Rugged qualities aside, the S7 Active is basically the same as the Galaxy S7 we know and love. The front of the phone has the same gorgeous 5.1-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, with great viewing angles and strong visibility in sunlight.

“Below the display are three physical buttons, including a smooth Home button with a built-in fingerprint sensor like the GS7. The S7 Active also includes textured Back and Options buttons, on either side of the Home button. They aren’t backlit, but they’re responsive and easy to distinguish under your thumb,” Samsung says.

Unveiling the Smartphone, Tim Baxter, President, Samsung Electronics America said the Galaxy S7 Active represents Samsung’s ongoing commitment to listening to customers and delivering on meaningful innovations that fit their needs.

According to him,  the company is excited to be working with AT&T to introduce a device that sets a high bar on what it means to combine elegance with toughness, and gives customers a durable Smartphone built for their active lifestyles.

Jeff Bradley, Senior Vice President, Device Marketing and Network Services, who commented on the launch and sales partnership, said: “The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is one of the best Galaxy devices ever, and it can only be found at AT&T.

“We’ve worked with Samsung to design our most stylish Active Smartphone of the past four years, and it can still handle your daily grind whether you’re a multi-tasking mom, an outdoors-man at the lake, or a contractor on a job site. Throw in the fact that this phone comes with a variety of awesome deals, and you can get a complete ecosystem of premium devices at a great value,” Bradley added.
