Samsung has unveiled the Gear Fit2, its latest fitness band sporting an inbuilt Global Positioning System (GPS ) with an increased screen size.

The activity tracker is the successor to the original Samsung Gear Fit, released in 2014. The new wristband has an updated design, built-in GPS, and the ability to automatically recognise certain activities, an increasingly common feature in fitness bands and watches.

The first noticeable thing about the new Gear Fit 2 is its size. It’s a more flexible band than its predecessor Gear Fit 1

Samsung says Gear Fit2 is twice as wide as the previous model — 1.5-inch, super AMOLED display, which was designed with maximum visibility in mind. All of the data is displayed vertically on your wrist, which means you don’t have to turn your wrist to view a horizontal display.

The Gear Fit2,is designed with consumers’ fitness needs in mind, and includes features such as precise tracking technology and a standalone music player to provide users with the optimal fitness experience, the company says.

The Gear Fit2 also features a heart rate monitor (HRM) that offer accurate and robust fitness tracking and measurement,  that the optimized to benefit users’ various fitness levels, whether they are training for a marathon or taking a daily stroll through the neighborhood.

Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics says, “Living a healthy lifestyle is a top priority for consumers to enjoy fulfilling lives. Our wearable technology can enhance existing routines and blend fitness and fun.

“The Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX are specialised to easily address these needs, ultimately allowing users to get more out of their fitness experiences and everyday activities,” he adds.

-Provides a Super AMOLED curved display with a high-resolution color touch-screen for easy fitness monitor, or checking and responding to text message notifications.

-Embedded GPS and HRM sensor for accurate data tracking of activities that fit any lifestyle.

-With Auto Activity Tracking feature, users won’t have to manually activate the sports band – whether running, walking, cycling, or utilising rowing machine or elliptical trainer.

-Enables easy transfer of fitness data between S Health and other select fitness applications, and provides ‘Step Challenges,’ for 1:1 competition with your friends.
