Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) registered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) can now enjoy a 15% discount on logistics services under a partnership offer by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
The deal is one of the key highlights of a partnership between the two government agencies, which was formalised in Abuja on Friday to address the issue of high logistics costs that often hinder the sales and market access of SMEs in Nigeria.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the 2017 National Survey of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria shows that there were 41,543,028 MSMEs employing several millions of Nigerians. These businesses, along with others, will benefit from the discount.
To benefit from this partnership, businesses must first be registered with SMEDAN. To register a business with the agency, interested parties must provide basic information such as a business name, phone number, email address, and password on its website to receive a unique identification number and certificate.
Mr Charles Odili, the SME agency’s SMEDAN, says he is leading the charge to implement the GROW Nigerian blueprint, which seeks to unlock opportunities for SMEs through strategic partnerships, the government agency says in a statement.
The agency’s mission is to promote and develop SMEs in Nigeria by providing access to knowledge, funding, tools, and markets to facilitate their growth and contribute to the overall prosperity of the Nigerian economy.
NIPOST, a 100% Federal Government-owned parastatal under the Ministry of Communications & Digital Economy, is responsible for providing postal services in Nigeria.
The partnership between agencies underscore their effort and commitment to supporting SMEs and fostering economic growth in Nigeria, according to the statement.
