The Sokoto State Government says it is set to receive a $3 million boost from development partners to support the growth of its digital economy.
Bashar Umar Kwabo, Sokoto State Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, who dropped the hint during a key meeting held as part of the Ministry’s budget presentation to the State House of Assembly, says the $3 million will also enable the government to expand digital hubs and enhance ICT infrastructure.
The meeting brought together the Sokoto State House of Assembly (SOHA) committee on science and technology and a delegation from the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE) to discuss the state’s digital landscape, according to the state government.

According to a report shared by the Sokoto Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy on Facebook, the Commissioner discloses that the “Sokoto State Government (SOSG) anticipates a $3 million intervention from development partners, which will support the establishment of digital hubs, expansion of ICT infrastructure, and implementation of capacity-building programmes.”
According to a report shared by the Sokoto Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy on Facebook, the Commissioner discloses that the “Sokoto State Government (SOSG) anticipates a $3 million intervention from development partners, which will support the establishment of digital hubs, expansion of ICT infrastructure, and implementation of capacity-building programmes.”
During the meeting, Kwabo underscores the importance of ICT initiatives, noting that participating in both local and international technology conferences would allow key stakeholders and decision-makers in the state to stay up-to-date on emerging trends and opportunities in the digital ecosystem.
He also emphasises the urgent need for increased digital funding in the state’s budget, explaining that adequate financial resources are crucial to “address critical infrastructure gaps to enable the Ministry to accelerate digitalisation and e-governance initiatives.”
Additionally, the Commissioner seeks the support of the State House of Assembly for the quick approval of the Sokoto State ICT Development Agency (SICTDA) Bill, underlining its importance in strengthening the state’s digital economy.
Another key speaker at the meeting, Habibu Modachi of Isa Constituency, called on the Ministry to prioritise the development of additional capital projects, noting that it will help address the growing demand for ICT infrastructure to support the state’s development.
