SpeakYoruba app maker wants to ‘promote African languages’

Mobile content developer AJA.LA says the release of its first mobile app, SpeakYoruba app aims to promote and preserve African languages.

SpeakYoruba, a Yoruba learning app combines beautifully illustrated flashcards with the iOS touch interface for a fun and easy way to understand the nitty gritty of the Yoruba language, according to the app maker.
appsSpeakYoruba app is available to download in the Apple App Store with dedicated versions for the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.
According to AJA.LA, SpeakYoruba app is loaded with animated flashcards in bright, fun colors for each letter of the Yoruba alphabet, and English/Yoruba pronunciation guides to help users build a basic vocabulary.

According to its developers, “SpeakYoruba app has been designed for kids, but is perfect for anyone curious to learn an African language.”
The SpeakYoruba app developer says the innovation piqued its interest because “Yoruba is spoken by more than 20 million speakers all over the world, and is one of Africa’s most widely spoken languages. The Yoruba diaspora extends to South America and the Caribbean. North America and Europe are home to a growing diasporas of Yoruba speakers.”
 SpeakYoruba app features include:
  • Animated flashcards and English/Yoruba pronunciation guides.
  • Language-learning games for spelling, translation, pronunciation and a match-2 memory game.
  • Soundtrack by Nigerian high-life legend, Baba Ken Okulolo.
