Leading Nigerian tech company SystemSpecs has said at the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub Devcamp that young innovators are leading the way with solutions addressing societal challenges.

Dr Emmmanuel Eze, Chief Technology Officer of SystemSpecs dropped this hint at the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub Devcamp, a programme that trains young innovators, leveraging on the partnership of competent public and private institutions.

While addressing young innovators during the Devcamp demo event held recently, where sample products developed by beneficiaries of the Devcamp programme were showcased, the SystemSpecs CTO also underscored the need for product differentiation.

While reviewing tech products showcased by the young innovators at the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub Devcamp, he expressed his delight in the products showcased and commended the young innovators, who he said have created solutions to solve various challenges in the society.

According to him, with some adjustments and implementation of recommendations, they can become ready for investors and the market.

“I am quite impressed by this app,” the SystemSpecs CTO says about one of the products on display noting that, “you have not only showcased the app but you have done a proof of concept.”

The UK- Nigeria Tech Hub is an initiative by the UK Government to support the growth of the Nigerian tech ecosystem. Its Devcamp programme is organized in partnership with Wootlab Innovations, an organization that leverages technology for human capital development in preparing people for the future of work, and supported by a number of organizations, including SystemSpecs.

SystemSpecs is one of the largest and oldest tech firms in Nigeria, it is a leading provider of Financial Technology and Human Resource Management solutions, with products like Remita, HumanManager, and Paylink, which are helping governments, businesses, banks, and individuals to solve problems.

The solutions exhibited at the event include Agrotech, an app that simplifies the communication between investors and farmers, a fintech solution that facilitates payment, and Medicreen, an AI-powered chatbot that helps to create a medical diagnosis report.

The aim of the Agrotech app is to enable the rich individuals interested in agriculture to communicate and collaborate with farmers. Rich individuals with lands lying fallow can collaborate with farmers on the platform and have their lands used for farming purposes for a stipulated period of time. Also, unempowered farmers can get investors.

Using map technologies, Medicreen highlights health facility (Hospitals, Pharmacies, etc.) around users. Medicreen streamlines patient flows from asking patients preliminary questions (Diagnostics) and generating a report such that it could be sent to a doctor for a drug prescription.

Besides the Devcamp, SystemSpecs says it has also been involved in supporting a wide range of programs and events aimed at developing technology in Nigeria.

These include the Lagos State government’s Ready Set Work initiative tailored towards addressing employability challenges faced by today’s graduates, and Code Lagos that seeks to train one million Lagosians on how to write code.

In May 2020, SystemSpecs organized a Children’s Day Essay Competition for pupils across the country.

Remita, the indigenously-developed flagship payment technology platform by SystemSpecs has received positive reviews for revolutionizing the electronic payment industry in Nigeria.

Remita, which is used by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as payment gateway also helps public and private institutions to address solutions to payments and other issues.

Remita drives the Federal Government’s efforts to streamline its payments and revenue collection through the implementation of the Treasury Single Account [TSA].

The banking industry regulator says the TSA provides “State Governments with a clear framework to support their successful implementation of the TSA initiative, based on standardized banking arrangements, operational processes and IT infrastructure.”

At the heart of the TSA initiative is the operation of a unified structure of Government Bank Accounts, in a single account or a set of linked accounts for all Government payments and receipts.”

According to CBN, the TSA “is primarily designed to bring ALL Government funds in bank accounts within the effective control and operational purview of the Treasury, in order to: Enthrone centralised, transparent and accountable revenue management; Facilitate effective cash management; Ensure cash availability; Promote efficient management of domestic borrowing at minimal cost; Allow optimal investment of idle cash; Block loopholes in revenue management; Establish an efficient disbursement and collection mechanism for Government funds; Improve liquidity reserve; and Eliminate operational inefficiency and costs associated with maintaining multiple accounts across multiple financial institutions.”
