The Taraba State Government on Friday formalised a strategic partnership with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abuja.
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas met with CCECC’s leadership at TY Danjuma House, Asokoro, where both parties agreed to collaborate on energy, infrastructure, and economic development, with a flagship hydropower project at the core of the initiative.

Governor Kefas described the MoU as a milestone in his administration’s bid to transform Taraba’s economy, adding that energy distribution would soon become a key asset for the state.
Under the pact, Taraba will launch a new hydropower project designed to boost electricity supply within the state and across Nigeria. The agreement also prioritises expansion of road networks, upgrade of transportation systems, and implementation of food security programmes. Officials say the deal aims to harness Taraba’s vast natural resources to close infrastructure gaps and unlock long-term opportunities for growth.
Governor Kefas described the MoU as a milestone in his administration’s bid to transform Taraba’s economy, adding that energy distribution would soon become a key asset for the state. He noted that the ongoing rehabilitation of the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo underscores his government’s resolve to open Taraba to investment and innovation.
Speaking on behalf of CCECC’s President, Mr. Chan Sichang, Chief Executive Director Mr. Zhou Dongping hailed the agreement as a “remarkable step” for Taraba. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to deploying its expertise in energy and infrastructure to deliver sustainable projects.
At the briefing, Engr. Alex Oniegbu unveiled the Taraba Development Master Plan 2024, which outlines projects across senatorial districts and local governments. He said the plan, backed by CCECC’s support, would position Taraba as a hub for energy distribution and infrastructure development in Nigeria.
