Shina Badaru, Founder/Chairman of Technology Times, the Nigerian technology media group with its official website on www.technologytimes.ng, has advocated an industry-driven model for artificial intelligence (AI) regulation in the Nigerian media industry.
In extreme cases, people die when AI or any other technology gets into the wrong hands as have been seen with incidents triggered by deep fakes and other manipulations intended to cause disinformation, Badaru told attendees, while speaking at the InnovateAI 2024 conference held in Lagos, Nigeria.
According to him, the media industry must embrace self-regulation in addressing issues of the use of AI or other technologies as policy makers and other stakeholders clamour for the ethical use of AI amid growing incidents of misinformation and disinformation.
