The University of Lagos (UNILAG) says it is expanding its academic frontiers with the creation of a new Faculty of Computing and Informatics, introduced to align the institution’s curriculum with the demands of the fast-evolving digital economy.
The newly-established faculty houses three cutting-edge departments—Computer Science, Intelligent Systems and Robotics, and Cybersecurity and Software Engineering—which UNILAG says are designed to equip students with future-ready skills in emerging tech domains.
UNILAG says the expansion forms part of a major academic restructure that increases its total number of faculties from 12 to 19. The university has also unveiled six other new faculties: Architecture, Basic Clinical Sciences, Communication and Media Studies, Creative Arts, Health Professions, Life Sciences, and Physical and Earth Sciences.

“With this expansion of our academic family from twelve (12) to nineteen (19) faculties, we hope to spark a renewed drive for discovery and innovation in our students and faculty alike,” the institution says in a statement. “This development is designed to expand knowledge, foster innovation, and prepare students for the evolving future.”
The move, according to UNILAG, reinforces its commitment to producing globally-relevant graduates capable of thriving in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
“These additions reflect our renewed commitment to broadening horizons, deepening expertise, and shaping leaders who will reimagine the future,” UNILAG says. “Indeed, and in truth, with this bold step into the future, UNILAG will be shaping thinkers, creators, leaders and change-makers who will take on the world with knowledge and compassion.”
The university is calling on stakeholders to support what it describes as a transformative journey where “innovation meets tradition, and possibilities are limitless.”
