YouTube premium subscribers across Africa can now use Verve debit cards for their subscriptions following a payments collaboration between owners of the streaming service and Interswitch.
Verve, Africa’s largest domestic payments and token brand, owned by Interswitch, a leading African integrated payment and digital commerce company announced the strategic partnership with YouTube, the world’s largest video-sharing platform, owned by Google, in a statement.
“Through this strategic partnership, Verve is dedicated to redefining the digital payment experience, empowering our cardholders with unparalleled convenience and accessibility,” Vincent Ogbunude, Managing Director of Verve International says.
“This collaboration with YouTube highlights Verve’s role as a pioneer in the digital payments ecosystem while expanding its reach and influence beyond traditional financial boundaries.”
The partnership, according to Interswitch, will “remove the friction often associated with recurring online payments.”
Verve, with over 65 million users, the company says, is known for its strong security features and wide acceptance across multiple countries. By simplifying the payment process, the partnership seeks to encourage more people to subscribe to YouTube Premium.
Cherry Eromosele, Executive Vice President of Group Marketing and Corporate Communications at Interswitch Group, Verve’s parent company, highlights the benefits for subscribers, saying that it include a more streamlined payment process and the security provided by Verve’s infrastructure.
“Subscribers can now benefit from a more streamlined process when renewing their YouTube Premium memberships, with the added assurance of Verve’s secure and reliable payment infrastructure,” Eromosele says.
“This collaboration signifies that African consumers are not just passive participants in the global digital economy but are active contributors, enjoying services with the same ease and efficiency as their global counterparts.”
Verve, the company says, has a history of strategic partnerships, notable collaborations include a partnership with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) to transform the LASRRA card into a smart card, another with Google for enabling Verve card payments in Naira on the Google Play Store, and another with Sterling Bank for launching Verve’s first line of credit cards.
