Wi-Fi shipments reached 12 billion units in 2015 and are expected to surpass 15 billion units by the end of 2016, Wi-Fi Alliance has announced.
According to the global non-profit Wi-Fi industry association, Wi-Fi has become one of the most prolific technologies around the world with an installed base of more than 6.8 billion devices.

To support Wi-Fi’s widespread adoption, the Wi-Fi Alliance 2016 technology roadmap includes programmes that will increase Wi-Fi performance and network capacity, and will provide unique capabilities to meet diverse connectivity demands across a variety of applications and markets.
“The Wi-Fi industry’s growth has been closely paralleled by the growth of Wi-Fi Alliance certification programmes,” Phil Solis, Research Director at ABI Research says.
“With more than 12 billion Wi-Fi products shipped to date, another 3 billion expected in 2016, and shipments of dual-band devices operating in 2.4 and 5 GHz increasing year-after-year, Wi-Fi momentum shows no signs of slowing down.”
