ZTE has signed a contract to provide advanced communications systems under the ongoing modernisation of the Nigerian railway.

The Chinese telecoms equipment, network solutions and mobile devices provider will work with the project contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to provide advanced communications systems to speed up the modernization of the Nigerian railway system, according to a statement.

It should be noted that CCECC was awarded a contract to build a double-track standard-gauge railway from Lagos to Kano. The total length of this railway is 1,315 kilometers. This will be the first standard railway constructed by a Chinese company in Nigeria, and will be the first modern railway in Nigeria.

ZTE is expected to provide reliable and efficient information and communications system equipment and debugging and commissioning services, thus, ensuring the smooth operation of the modern railway.

The communication systems include the transmission system, telephone system, wireless communications system, scheduling and optical communication column system, power supply system and communication instruments. Information systems include the passenger guidance system, public address system, clock system and power supply devices.
